Advert Critic- Lynx Excite

In the Lynx Excite advert beautiful angels fall to earth in Italy, astounding the locals and giving their unimportant lives a short look of a saintly world beyond their own made physical, only for the angels to throw their halos blasphemously at the feet of a young also beautiful male who’s just sprayed himself with Lynx. The ad ends with a voiceover, “New Lynx Excite, even angels will fall“.

I liked it the very first time I watched it, and I never got bored of it. It takes the genuineness of thousands of years of religious belief and cultural symbol, and uses it as a joke about a men’s deodorant.
I’d have to give this advert 8 and a half out of ten.

What do you rate this advert out of 10 and why?

However, I really like this advert too and give it a 9 out of ten! The models are beautiful and it’s just another clever and expensive advert from Lynx.

  2. Jonas Jones says:

Love the whole idealism of it all!

    9.5/10

One of the best adverts in recent years! They coulda made the man fitter tho!

    • Andre Matthias says:

Agreed on the rating one of the best adverts in recent times!

I’d give it a 9/10 keep 10/10 ratings for adverts such as the; ‘cadbury gorilla campaign’

I do think the man chosen was intentionally ‘average looking’ to add empathy for other men watching the advert. Would be hard for us normal men to relate to it if they had chosen a top italian model!

      • MelanieDN says:

Thank you Jonas and Andre for your comments.

I also think they just picked an ‘average looking’ so that the audience can relate to him and believe that if you spray yourself with ‘lynx’ beautiful angels will fall at you.

      • Andre Matthias says:

Yes Melanie, thats what was meant by ”think the man chosen was intentionally ‘average looking’ to add empathy for other men watching the advert. Would be hard for us normal men to relate to it if they had chosen a top italian model!”

      • MelanieDN says:

I was agreeing with you Andre, as adverts have to relate to the audience!

      • STEVIE BURKE says:

gr8 ad btw but prefer 70/80s ads. especially 4 denim. 1 wi Nick Kamen will nvr b 4gotten. wish it had been me!!!!

  3. Larry Cleom says:

Can’t believe the advert was filmed in Croatia!!

I agree with every one this advert is great and definately not one we get bored off!

I give it a 9 out of ten!!

    • Andre Matthias says:

I dont understand your shock at the location of this advert? Croatia is a beautifull country and the advert is very reflective of the country!

  4. Andre Matthias says:

Just to add I personally really like this add, I love how they include a blind man ‘seeing’ the angel to emphasise the angels ‘holiness’/greatness contrasted with the angels smashing their halo’s as a result of being seduced by the lynx effect! It really evokes the ‘power’ of the lynx effect! deff going to start using Lynx!

BUT I dont know about the use of the angels. Angels are holy and whilst especially in recent years, angels are personified everywere from adds to magazines and costume parties. We musnt forget that they are holy and to misrepresent anything holy and that represents something so important to a specific religious group is stepping into dangerous terratory. This add will raise a few religious eyebrows from Vatican City!

    • MelanieDN says:

This Lynx advert takes the seriousness of thousands of years of religious belief and cultural symbol, and uses it as a punch line- a joke about the deodorant spray. It’s the ultimate example of a commercial that uses both passion and belief against us, and then mocks us for even daring to have it.
The music ‘Sexy Boy’ as a soaring hymn, is made better by the fact that the chorus of ‘Ooh, sexy boy’ is repeated even before the punch line moment when the angels smash their halos.

With all of Lynx’s adverts comes controversy and they have definately got it with this advert!

  5. Evija Germane says:

Im bigger fan of the “even angels will fall” than the advert itself. I think Axe has a competition now. Finally

  6. Kaleem Hussain says:

i thought it was a great advert and marketing plan, good way to attract customers.

  7. Zaf Baker says:

I agree fully on this topic. Very well written. 9 out of 10 for sure.

  8. farah Zidan says:
